Thin Brick Mortar

A high strength mortar used to grout the popular "Thin Brick" used on building facades. Available in pre-blended colors, Thin Brick is ready to use, just add water.

Easton Mall

DESCRIPTION
THIN BRICK MORTAR is a pre-blended, ready to use mortar consisting of Portland cement, graded silica sand and special modifiers that produce a high strength mortar with excellent workability.

USES
Specifically designed for grouting joints on thin brick applications. Thin Brick Mortar can be used horizontally or vertically for grouting and tuck pointing mortar joints.

MIXING & APPLICATION
Begin by adding cool, clean water to mixing vessel. (approx. 4 ••• quarts per 50 lb. bag) Next slowly add Thin Brick Mortar and mix to a smooth, lump-free, low slump consistency. Begin application with grout float or grout bag. Allow mortar to set slightly, then strike joints or clean area with damp sponge. Grout haze residue or efflorescence may be removed by buffing with a dry towel or by cleaning with a commercially available brick cleaning solution. The use of muriatic acid based cleaners is not recommended due to discoloration of mortar and possible structural degradation.

LIMITATIONS
Mortar should be applied between 40º F and 90º F ideally. A minimum of 38º F and rising temperature is suggested. Do Not allow mortar to freeze for 48 hours after applying. Hot temperatures will cause faster set times. Cold temperatures will cause a slower set and strength gain. Colored Thin Brick may vary from batch to batch.

PRECAUTIONS
Contains Portland cement-avoid eye contact or prolonged contact with skin, Wash thoroughly after handling. In case of eye contact, flush with water for at least 15 minutes. Consult a physician immediately. Keep out of reach of children. Contains free silica- DO NOT breathe dust. May cause delayed lung injury. Follow OSHA safety and health standards for crystalline silica (quartz). See material safety data sheet for detailed information.

Surface Bonding Cement

DESCRIPTION
A glass fiber reinforced mix used in mortarless wall construction. Simultaneously builds stronger walls and seals to prevent leakage .2 ½ times stronger than conventional mortar joint construction.

USES
For use on new concrete masonry, wall structures, and renovation of old masonry construction.

MIXING
Add approximately 1½ gallons of clean water into a clean mortar mixer. Pour entire bag of Cook Surface Bonding Cement. Mix for 1-2 minutes. Avoid mixing in excess of 5 minutes or fibers will break down. More water may be added to achieve a mortar-like consistency.

APPLICATION
For new building construction the first course of block must be laid in a bed of Surface Bonding Cement or mortar beginning with the corner blocks. It is essential that the first course be perfectly aligned and level, Subsequent courses can then be dry stacked by stepping back half a unit length on each course to maintain a running bond in the block wall pattern. Shims may be required to keep the wall plumb and level. Wash down all surfaces of dirt, dust, oil, and mud. If blocks dry prior to application, wet them down again. Surface Bonding Cement should be applied at least 1/8" thick on both sides of the wall. The average coverage of a 1/8" thickness is 55 sq. ft. depending on job conditions, DO NOT use in temperatures below 40 degrees F. Do not allow finish work to freeze.

TECHNICAL DATA
Exceeds ASTM C-887 specifications.
Tests show that a Surface Bonded wall is at least equal in compressive strength and greater in flexural strength than conventional mortar joint walls.

PRECAUTIONS
Contains Portland cement avoid eye contact or prolonged contact with skin. Wash thoroughly after handling. In case of eye contact, flush with water for at least 15 minutes. Consult a physician immediately. Keep out of reach of children. Contains free Silica - DO NOT breathe dust. May cause delayed lung injury. Follow OSHA safety and health standards for crystalline silica (quartz).See material safety data sheet for detailed information.
